whist i wouldnt reccomend all inclusive anywhere as i just dont think its real value for money and they just dont seem to be able to get it right, even at 5 star level ,but , as you’ve asked i’ll answer! lol my only reccomendations would be the teguise playa hotel which is actually right on the sea front overlooking punto jablillo beach or further along the coronas playa hotel again on the seafront overlooking the playa bastian beach,( but this is over 16 year olds only thomson gold) another fairly decent one is the bluebay, formally lanzarote bay, but about a 15 min walk to the beach. and then you have los zocos which overlooks las cucharas beach but the all inclusive is really poor standard, you are much better off going self catering in costa teguise, its good value for money and loads of bars restaurants to choose from!

all inc not for me,i love staying at galeon playa, great breakfast at meljels next door, beach across the road, cheap chinese around the corner, check out travelrepublic for recoms.and prices

hi booty, i agree with jude, costa tequise is a great island and can only benefit further by tourist spending the money in the resort itself instead of putting their money into all inclusive hotels, in which, the standard of food is not the best compared with that of all the nice restauaranta around the island, we stay self catering at los zocos but wouldnt eat the food for two weeks there. i cant say too much about the other hotels but there are a few like the tequise playa and luabay that ive heared are pretty decent. we go in 11 days 🙂

One week is enough in A.I. but if you go for longer it is far better to go self catering on a nice quiet complex not sure that Thomson are offering the hotel Jude mentioned but i could be wrong ( i usually am )

Hi after renting 4 bed villa in pdc in early sep anyone any advice cheers nick

I agree with everyone else (forget AI) – and Jude has outlined the better of the big hotels.

There are numerous Appartments in CT why not try one of them out. I’ve stayed in many of them and although some are slightly better than others they are all OK. There are lots of good restaurants at reasonable prices so no need to cook yourself.

Some of the Appartments I’d recomend are Nazaret, Oasis Lanz, and Galleon, all in the town and 5mins walk to all the shops, rstaurants bars and of course the beach. Slightly further out 10mins walk to town but still right close to beach are Los Zocos and Lanzarote Gardens.

If you go AI you’ll miss out all the fun in the bars such as Scots and Wry, Dolphin, Lighthouse etc. etc.

Hope you have a good time whatever you choose.

All the answers are good but just remember going AI is best. All your food and drink is taken care of and you can have a nice relaxing time.
Go AI forget the other options.

    • tonybax on Jun 21, 2012

have a look at oceano apts self catering.
wouldnt thank you for all inclusive, the reason costa teguise is struggling business wise is through that very reason all inclusive hotels 19 of them.
go self catering and enjoy the many restaurants and bars . they are real good value for money.

  8. mike on Jun 21, 2012

going all inclusive isnt best, yeah u may get all food and drink inclusive but there are restrictions aswell, also u dont get a wide variety choice wise in food and have to eat at
certain times. u dont experience the culture in all of the bars and also the area. if u want to keep visiting the island for years to come or indeed others resorts then money needs to be spent in the local town, i.e restaurants bars excursion etc etc. we go self catering and still have money left at end of holiday and we buy dinners, sometimes make are own which is better than the hotels food. it is a cheap resort to go self catering and they need our business.

  9. David myers on Jun 22, 2012

The general feeling going of all the replies is go self catering but why are A.I. becoming more popular, which is the opposite from the general feed back on this site, is it a bit like the Tesco effect once one opens it kills off local businesses

  10. Jan on Jun 22, 2012

I’ve been going to CT for 15 years and always self catering. I wouldnt even think of going AI as the restaurants and bars in CT are wonderful. Going AI you would miss out on just relaxing in one of the bars in the square and enjoying the food at the numerous restaurants. Going AI you miss all that as most people think that if they’ve paid for AI they want to make the most of it and I don’t care what people say most of the food is recycled in different guises to make it cost effective for the hotels. I would much rather spend my money on a meal that is to my choosing.

  11. David myers on Jun 22, 2012

Jan i agree with most of what you are saying but how can you comment on A.I. if you have never used one, i have only used a couple of A.I. as over the last twenty years i have done self catering in Lanzarote. but i cant call the food in the A.I. it was fresh well prepared with lots of choice and served nice and hot. of course you could get a poor meal but the next time i get a poor meal in a restaurant wont be the first

  12. Jan on Jun 22, 2012

Actually David I have been on a a few AI to various places in Europe and all were the same standard, like I said food was recyled in many disguises. Whilst some may say thats good housekeeping, for the tourists it becomes boring and bland. The only Ai that I would not complain about was in Mexico where everything was 1st class. AI is ruining CT and I am sure even the locals would agree, going as I have over the last 15 years I can see what effect it has had on the resort and I’m not the only one. But there again everyone is entitled to their opinion!!

  13. David myers on Jun 22, 2012

I agree with the effect its having its sad

  14. biffo on Jun 22, 2012

Never the less ,we could all carry on with the debate about AI or SC for food, but what about the unlimited drinks you get with AI.The price charged for stale warm coffee in some cafes is very dear and priced to what the cafe owner thinks he can get away with.
When you know you are going to be stitched up it makes AI commonsense

  15. David myers on Jun 22, 2012

Jan you mention an A.I. being 1st class in Mexico if this 1st class hotel is available in Lanzarote you could not blame people for using them so in a round about way you are promoting them with that statement

  17. mike on Jun 22, 2012

likee biffo said we could carry this debate on and on, yes every one is enitled to their opinion, there will never be a agreement on which is best but all i would say is that…. what attracts u to go away in the first place, hotel or the resort/city etc ur staying in and would these places survive if u just put all ur money into the hotel??? u dont go somewhere to be restricted to one place do u. Costa tequise is a great place with lots of culture and it needs the tourists who visit to spend money there.

  18. biffo on Jun 22, 2012

O K Mike great comment ,but you don”t have to put all the money into the hotel .It is nice to know that the food is going to be reasonable with AI.I have eaten some good grub and some bad grub in Lanzarote cafes , but never in hotels. It just seems to me the cafe owner will try to get away with the minimum possible to get your cash. One of the biggest areas is the food because they don”t have the buying clout of the hotels. It seems to me the worst item to skimp on is making the chip oil last an extra couple of more days and hard luck on the punter if the chips taste burnt. You complain and the world war 3 starts with the cafe owner complaining he can”t compete . He knows why…,people have had enough being taken for a ride.

    • mike leacy on Jun 22, 2012

it,s strange that biffos comment includes the words caffs and chip oil in his assesment of eating places in ct, perhaps if he tried a restaurant he would have a pleasant surprise and see the difference between ai and proper food

  19. mike on Jun 22, 2012

biffo, dont know why u keep mentioning cafes??? we have been going to costa tequise for years and each time we have gone self catering, there are so many nice restaurants i could go on forever and in that time i have had 1 meal that was not upto standard. the quality of food u get in the restaurants is of a high standard and they dont cut corners. u dont want “reasonable food” as u put it and trust me the food at restaurants in costa tequise is quality and if u take a walk out in the evenings u will c how full alot the restauarants are. having spoken to so many people over the years in lanzarote who have gone AI, the feedback i got back was that the food wasnt great and they ate out at the restauarants and were suprised at how much better the standard of food was, not to mention the choices!

  20. mike on Jun 22, 2012

also regarding ur point about complaints….. last year when we went to one of the restaurants near the pancakes stand, my partners meal didnt taste rite so she complained about this and the restaurant gave her the choice of another meal and only charged us for our meal at the end. shows they set themselves high standards and want repeat custom.

Hi, we went to costa teguise for the first time last year and stayed at the el trebol we are 2 adults and 2 children aged at the time 15 and 11. We had a great time, the food was good, the hotel clean, 4 pools and good entertainment. We did go out aswell and it is not very far to the beach and to the other bars and restaurants if you fancy a change. It depends what age groups you are but we had a such a good time and so did our children that we are going back again this year and our friends are going aswell so all together there will be 5 families going there in july with children of various ages. It is a 3 star but a very good 3 star regarding the food and the cleanliness and the location is good. There is a bar just outside called cactus jacks which is great fun aswell. Hope this helps, Debbie

Why would anyone eat ‘chips’ in a ‘cafe’ when the alternative is canarian potatoes with mojo? I know, I know – some people like chips with everything – its just my opinion. 🙂

  23. nick wright on Jun 23, 2012

I agree with people who don’t like ai you could be anywhere in the world if you don’t go out and enjoy local food

  24. Andy B on Jun 24, 2012

I am going to el trebol later this week with my wife and daughter we are staying AI but will be going out in to ct night life every night.
