What are the best palces to visit in Lanz ?

Asked by: 19th February 2011

Been often to Lanz and have been to all the usual tourist places PDC, CT, PB, Teguise Market, Tima etc. Visiting again in 2 weeks and have a hire car. Anyone suggest any out of the way places off the beaten track worth seeing ?

Puerto Calero is worth a trip. It has a nice marina and some good restaurants. You can also book a catamaran trip or if they still do the submarine trip that is quite good. Take a drive through the wine region – La Geria – you can visit a winery and buy a couple of bottles but the best thing to do is go off the main road and you will come across handwritten cardboard signs saying vino se vende – wine for sale. Follow the signs and you will come to someones house who will pour you a couple of glasses of their home brew wine. Of course, you will have to buy some off them – its only polite after all. An interesting day depending on how many you find. Make sure you draw straws beforehand to decide on the unlucky designated driver.

Go to LagOmar Oasis de Nazaret nr Teguise it was the home of Omar Sharif it is now a museum and has a lovely bar all built into a set of caves beautiful, but closed on Mondays.
Then go up to Teguise and potter around the cobbled streets visit the Palacio Spinola and you could then drive up to the Castillo de Santa Barbara what a view.

Go and see the fantastic waves over at Famara, and also you could go to the top of the island and across on the fery to La Graciosa – the smallest inhabited island in the Canaries.

agree with karen, famara def worth a visit and also orzola, just past jameos del agua on your way to orzola villiage, there are some lovely little secluded beaches with white sand, sea a bit choppy but fantastic views, then you can drive along to orzola for lunch, lots of fish restaurants, dont pick the busiest one tho,try the more secluded quieter ones, less touristy.you get the ferry to graciosa here too.

A trip to El Golfo is worth it,
its off the beaten track, nice restaurants and great views, also the green lake,
Then take a drive up to femes have a drink in the bar at the top, views across playa blance,
Or do the bodega run, taking in them all
    good half day,

A visit to the artist and Architect Cesar Manrique’s house near Costa Teguise is fascinating. Takes about an hour to get round. The house was built into the Lava and is really unusual.

Agree with most of the above. Famara is my favourite place and has a very Spanish feel. Also went to the Cactus garden last year – been going to Lanz for over 20 years and had not seen. Although you may not have an interest in cactuses, the variety and different types are amazing. Try Teguise on a Sunday AFTER the markets have finished – it is a fun place with many of the stallholders in the bars, impromptu music jams etc. Agree with Jude on the small beaches off the road to Orzola. Just pull into rough car parks on the LHS and cross the road. Caesar Manrique’s house is also worth a visit on the way. ENJOY!
