Timanfaya – best side of the coach to sit on?

Asked by: 1st April 2013

Hi, we are going to take the tour around the Timanfaya park when we next visit. I understand there is a small ride around the park on a coach? Is there a ‘best’ side of the coach to sit on to get a better view of the park or does it not really matter much? Many thanks for any help provided.

I sat on the right, but I’m sure the coach w”ont be packed,so you could easily change seats

This is a great excursion one of the best we have been on. Amazing.

It really doesn’t matter what side you sit on, spectacular from either side.

I agree it is spectacular from either side

It depends on which way you’re travelling. DOH.

As the others say it doesn’t really matter. You’ll have a good time and good view no matter where you sit.

    Enjoy !

Thank you all for your answers, especially Ms. phillips – most insightful and considered. Not!

Anyway, went on the trip and luckily had access to both sides of the coach, which you do need as there are interesting things to see and photo/video on both sides.

    Thanks all.

Its been years since i did the Timanfaya coach trip ( circa late 80’s , gulp ) but back then it was also possible to drive yourself through with your own hire car ,, . Is that still do-able or have they restricted it soley to guided coach excursions these days ?

I know they were always very strict about not walking on the lava fields or taking any rocks ,,no matter how small,,and i hope and expect thats still the case, but im intrigued about the scenario of being able to still drive through or not..

As far as I know you have to use the coach but to be honest with you that is better especially if your upstairs as you get such a good view.

Yes you have to use the coach you can,t drive round your self,
the cost of getting in includes the coach tour and last time I was there they were single deck coach.

I remember driving round but that has not been allowed for quite a few years now.

When we were there it was a double decker but that was perhaps luckly for us.

When we went a couple yrs ago, we were first on the coach so we sat upstairs at the front! Fantastic trip. well worth trying to sit at the front upstairs. I didnt think much of the stop at the wine place 🙁

Have just returned from Lanzarote and we did this trip. Myself and hubby sat on the left and our son the right (that’s facing the front of the bus). I don’t know what I was expecting but spent the whole trip petrified and telling myself that the driver had done this trip many, many times. All I can say is that I was grateful for the left side as there weren’t as many drop offs (a major fear). The right side allowed for stunning views of the crater of the volcano (or so I was advised)!
The road seems very narrow and I wondered how the heck the bus would fit but it did and we got back in one piece!
I can’t imagine a double decker doing this and our trip was by a coach.
One thing I can definitely say is that I won’t be making the same mistake again!! That’s my personal fear though! I’m sure you will enjoy the experience.
We also did our trip at the very end of the day and it was very quiet. When we called earlier in the day there were a lot of cars queuing to get into the park. Later, we went straight in.
    Hope you enjoy your trip.

Helena I know how you feel, I felt the same the road is narrow and you look out of the window to see a shear drop down and think how do the drivers keep the coach on the road.

I have only seen single deck coaches on the tour, It does get very busy during the day we went early and was not so busy. Its well worth the vist
