We are going to Lanzarote 1st Feb and was wondering if I took my little telescopic fishing rod would I be ok to take my little boy sea fishing off some nearby rocks to hopefully catch some lunch?

We always stay in Costa Teguise and Playa Bastian is good for fishing off rocks. Also plenty of rock pools which your son would probably like as you tend to find lots of little creatures in them. Arrecife is also good. There are always lots of local chaps fishing off the prom there. We don’t go to Carmen much but I’m sure there will be plenty of places to fish.

Due to the building work and alterations to Puerto Del Carmen’s Harbour there are very few places to fish. Fishing is now prohibited in the harbour itself. Some fishing can be had off the small jetty by the small beach to the left of the harbour (where the Bannana Boat and Jet Skis are), but Costa Teguise or Playa Flamingo beach in Playa Blanca are probably best.

May I recommend that you walk along the coastal road from the old town to Puerto Calero, you can fish off the back of the Marina there with your little boy. Buy some fresh prawns from the supermarket in Puerto Calero. They will be frozen but un-cooked. You can catch little bogas like sardines, great for frying, and also some beautiful rainbow fish. We live here and our kids fish down here all the time.
