some of my longstanding and regular customers get discount too, should i stop doing that? seems strange that you equate residents discount with tips?? not all places give discount and not all bar/restaurant owners can even afford to go out that often anyway! most discounts are a loyalty thing, not always given on first visits, and usually given beacause the residents have reccommended or sent business to these places.
and most of the other things residents are given discount for, eg tourist attractions, travel etc is because we pay taxes in this country, you have to have written proof of residencia before you are given this discount.
hope that makes things a bit clearer for you david ? x

If you are happy with the service and product provided then you should leave a tip.

hi jude, yes i love CT,love strolling about ,always pop in to where i feel comfortable and try new places as well.Next visit i hope to scrounge a lift to mirador del rio,the tour to graciosa is on my list as well(bit expensive though).I have rules when travelling.Book flights early, book transfers myself(cheapskate)Pay cash at the galeon playa for a room(i get treated very well there)Use public transport(famara 3 hours round trip)And change £s at the resort. As a pensioner ,saving money by not paying third parties ,i can use my savings to spend locally.regards dave x
