Public toilets in Lanzarote ?

Asked by: 7th March 2011

My wife and I will be in Lanzarote later this week.

I’ve heard that there are practically no public loos on the Island.  It’s a bit of an issue for me, as when I need the loo, I need it quick and there’s no holding back!

Has anyone been in a similar situation, and what did you do?

In particular, we intend spending a lot of time at Papagaya beaches.  Some say there are no loos, and others say there are, but they are a long hike from the beach.  Can anyone confirm this?

I must admit, digging holes in lava does not appeal to me!

There is a distinct lack of public toilets on the island!

At Papagayo there is a bar / restaurant on the top of the cliff overlooking the beach called Playa Papagayo otherwise there is a toilet block at Puerto Muelas but I’m not sure if this is open when the campsite there is closed.

If you’re out and about and need to go, the bars and restaurants are used to people dashing in, just buy a quick drink or snack in return for using the loo.

the hotels all have toilets in their foyers too,and no one seems to ask questions if you just lnip in to use them.not sure about the other resorts but costa teguise also has public toilets down at the red cross station on las cucharas beach, never been in tho so cant comment on the cleanliness!

As Jude said – as long as you don’t make a fuss then the hotels are ok – in the 3* + hotels they are usually situated in the foyer – in ohters they are quite often by the pool area.
As for the public ones on the beach – always take a toilet roll and they can get a bit yukky later on in the day.
