Norwegian Airline ?

Asked by: 28th September 2013

Just arrived in Lanzarote travelling from Gatwick with Norwegian airline.  Really pleased with their services. Got an extra 5 kg luggage compared to Ryan air (who we normally travel with). No silly weight or size restrictions on hand luggage, no one checking before you go through the gates.  Allocated seats at no extra charge. Not having a go at Ryan air but comparing both, Norwegian was a much better experience and this time, cheaper.

Wendy, hi we are also travelling with Norwegian Airlines this friday 4/10/13 from Gatwick. really looking forward to this, we normally travel with Monarch Airlines, but when we booked our flights last December 2013 we got them for a total of £238 for both of us return ( not each) which also inlcuded luggage and pre booked seats. Norwegian Air are a very big company and fly to many destinations from gatwick. with great reviews from there passengers. Must say though the cost of the same return flight now would cost us over £540 each
    it will soon be friday

Hi Wendy and Dave. I wonder if either of you could help me. I am travelling with NA in November but I am not clear on their boarding pass arrangements. I have checked with their website which has only confused me more. I am travelling only with hand luggage and I’m used to travelling with the world’s most reviled airline where you print the boarding passes online. How does it work with NA, do you have to queue up at a check in desk the same as if you have luggage? Any help would be appreciated.

    • dave love on Sep 29, 2013

Tom, with Norwegian Airlines, you cannot check in online like ryan air, monarch etc, you will have to queue up as you say, but there maybe a desk open just for passengers with small hand luggage only

    • Wendy on Sep 30, 2013

Hi Tom. There is a self checking machine which prints off your boarding pass and check in any other luggage you have. There are staff there to help you if you need but its very easy to do, just follow the instructions.

living in the north of the uk we don’t have access to na but since Ryanair moved to Liverpool we have flown with them about 5 times ayear and find them really good, the staff are friendly and as long as u follow the regs and don’t buy the on board food and drinks they r the cheapest way to get to lanza

Thanks Wendy and Dave, that’s very helpful. I agree with you Mike about Ryanair. I fly with them a lot and have never had any problems. I can see however that if you have a young family the whole experience could be a bit stressful.

mike leacy. ryanair also flys to arrecife monday and friday from manchester during the summer

  6. John Trengrove on Oct 02, 2013

I agree about Ryanair being one of the cheapest for the North of the UK, but it’s really not that much fun having to queue up like cattle to grab a seat because they don’t just give you a seat number. Boarding also seems to take forever as they decide it’s a good idea to check your hand baggage is not over the size limit dimensions one last time !

hi all just returned from a glorious 17 nights in costa teguise, weather absolutely fantastic 90/95 degrees every single day, and was very surprised first time in 10 years that there has hardly been any breeze, not even the wind surfers could move. no jumpers / cardys required at all in the evening and i mean some times at 2am.weather is forecast the same for the next 2 weeks as well Norwegian airlines are absolutely fantastic, both flights arrived 30 minutes early and are very efficient. David just seen your blog regarding Peroni but you will have problem at all getting this beer lots of places are now doing this and at different prices

  18. David myers on Oct 22, 2013

Nice to hear you enjoyed the hols and happy with Norwegian airlines.
But the bit I don’t like is there increase in the price you mentioned in your first reply
£238 return for two which is the amount you paid and a great price
Then the next amount mentioned is £1080 return for two as it got nearer to departure date I just find this increase to much to swallow
Is this just another way to rip us off

    • dave love on Oct 23, 2013

David, as you know (or may not know) the days of purchasing a cheap air fare ticket days before you actually travel is now in the past. the airlines have realised that too many people were holding on untill the last minute before booking there seats too get a good bargain. these days it now works in reverse order. If you look at any airline now ( 1 week before you depart) you will see that the price of the seats will have increased dramactically from the time you booked (say 6 months in advance) if you look at Norwegian air now for 2 people travelling next June 2014 you can get both passengers for a total of £160 ( that is total not each) but as the time gets nearer the prices will start to rise. as i say this is the same now with any airline. So to get a good bargain book early, and with norwegian air both ways are nice early morning flights

  19. david charles hind on Oct 24, 2013

jet2 have cheap flights available in dec from newcastle, worth a look :0)

  20. David myers on Oct 27, 2013

Dave Love cant disagree with what you say but at the moment N. Air don’t fly from Manchester so we wont see the bargains you can in Gatwick
Do they offer low prices when its school holidays even if booked well in advance I have a feeling they wont
We were hoping to fly out at Easter but even though we looked to book early this year it was way to expensive in school hols
Which brings me back to my earlier comment we just get ripped off in the UK

    • dave love on Oct 27, 2013

David M, August prices to lanzarote from gatwick (return) with N A is adults £265 and children £215 at least you get some discount with them unlike other airlines, hopefully now they have got there foot in the door perhaps they will soon start flying from manchester and other uk airports.

  21. Wendy on Oct 27, 2013

    Hi Dave

Your right in saying book early for the best prices. We’ve just booked for next March for 10 days with Ryanair as soon as the seats came available. We’ve paid £279 return including 1 suitcase (and all taxes included). Its a pity Norwegian air don’t operate from Birmingham as we have to take in to consideration fuel and parking charges as we live in a village 3 mile from Birmingham airport and to save even more money, we use the local 900 bus at £2.00 each to get to the airport lol !!!

  22. David myers on Oct 27, 2013

Lets hope we see the lower prices you seem to get but Manchester always seems that bit dearer
    Bring on N.Air
