Buy a pre-paid phone card from one of the local shops about €5 for 2-300 minutes

If you are an o2 subscriber, they have a package called “Chosen Country Spain.” It’s worth checking out.

I think I just called a couple of days before I left. It’s £5.50 per month. You receive calls free and pay 25p a min to call I’m. Please chck with O2 for current charges. I know it saved Mr a few quid.

With the O2 add on you can receive up to a thousand incoming minutes with a 30 day period – and yes you just need to ring a day or so in advance

Hi Alex, as per the other responses, all depends on when you are going, how much time you have to notify your current provider, whether you want to use your own number and whether you plan on using the facility more than once. I travel to Lanza on holiday with the family a number of times a year and invested in a spanish sim, that works with any unlocked phone and ipads etc that offer really cheap calls to the uk and in spain and has great coverage. I have pasted an active link from Ebay this morning below. I have bought three of these sims now as if you are using an ipad or internet dongle abroad, the roaming and data charges on this sim are so cheap it just makes perfect sense. These calls and data charges are in cents too so you should really have a look. I know there are many options but this one just works right for me and the family.

    Anyway, best of luck.

Alex if you are on vodafone, make sure you are registered on vodafone passport (think it is available on pay as you go too). There is a connection charge of 75p but then the minutes you use come out of your call plan so no additional costs unless you go over your inclusive mins. Think texts are chargeable though at 12p i.e. not out of your text allowance.
