Im thinking about buying a business in Lanzarote. Does anyone know of anything for sale?

Asked by: 25th February 2011

Im thinking about buying a business in Lanzarote and plan to visit for a few days soon.

I’ve seen a fruit shop and a cycle hire business.  I don’t want a bar or cafe.  I know I won’t be rich but is the lifestyle worth the risk?  Has anyone an opinion please?  Does anyone know of anything for sale?

    Hi Iain,

The lifestyle is good as long as you can work to earn enough to live on and not work long hours each day to do it. Buying an existing business is a good way to do this but don’t plough all of your savings into it, allow youself money in the bank so that you an draw on it as and when required whilst you get yourself established.

If you do buy a business have a lawyer and an accountant check out the traspaso agreement, lease on the premises, any existing debts, trading accounts and licenses required to run it. The property portal Freedom 4 Sale based in Lanzarote is used by a lot of local agents to advertise businesses as is Businesses For Sale in the UK.

I’ve seen all sorts for sale such as a second hand furniture shop, segway hire, barber shop, window cleaning round, property maintenance company etc. If you see a company that you like the look of, don’t be afraid to ask the owner if it is for sale, many of them don’t advertise with for sale boards etc as it can be detrimental to the business.

Don’t dismiss the bike hire going to be the next big thing!
