I think the words ALL INCLUSIVE are affecting the response to your question.

  2. Barry Dunne on Oct 18, 2012

Just enough for Duty free and a Bono bus pass

  3. Jeremy on Oct 18, 2012

Ok so your saying dont take any money are ya I was looking for a sensible response to be fair. Obviously you need to take some money you would have to be very stupid to take none wouldn’t you, just trying to find an average sort of view on this, thanks any way Peter for great advice.

We were A/I in Playa Blanca we were in a good hotel drink was good so no need to purchase a better branded spirit etc, so to get the point we spent 20 euro for a safe deposit box that was it. can’t speak for anyone else.

  5. Barry Dunne on Oct 19, 2012

My answer is based on the fact that AI means you don’t need money for food and drink which is the main expense on holiday.
Obviously if you intend to go on Bus tours you will need money but otherwise if you intend to spend your holiday in the Hotel what would you need money for except Duty free!

    • Jeremy on Oct 19, 2012

At least your answer was sensible thankyou

  6. lee edge on Oct 19, 2012

we went for 14 days AI in PDC and i spent 400 euros on miscellaneos stuff while we were out and about during the day. Drinks, Ice cream, newspapers etc…

  7. Frank on Oct 19, 2012

    What a boring bunch !

If you spend nowt and don’t frequent the local beaches, bars and restuarants you would be better staying at home, booking into a Holiday Inn and taking some sessions on their sun-beds.

How do you expect the local towns to survive if they don’t get any tourist money ?

    • Jeremy on Oct 20, 2012

I know what your saying and i do agree unfortunately due to lack of funds this is the only way that i can actually manage descent holiday for me and my family 🙁 however wd will be venturing out so i am sure that we will spend some money in the local are i love to look at the local history do i really hop we can.

  8. David myers on Oct 20, 2012

Frank did you not read what Lee Edge said he spent 400 euros over 14 days while stayimg A.I.
400 euros seems a fair amount to spend locally when staying A.I.
Theres some tight people who stay S.C. who wont spend that much
If A.I. works out cheaper go for it

  9. John Trengrove on Oct 20, 2012

    I agree with Mr Myers.

.Long live A I and bugger what everyone else says or thinks. Well done David Myers for such a good answer .

  11. Mr Clever on Oct 24, 2012

So here is the definitive answer.

If you can answer no to any of the following then A.I is for you….

Do you care about the local economy?
Do you want to support the local restaurants and hard working staff who work tirelesssly in their fight against the AI providers who take their incomes and livelihoods away?
Do you want to venture away from your wristbands and try the local cuisine?
Do you want to think about what you would like to eat?
Do you actually realise that going self catering and eating out is actually far more interesting and exciting than joining the same queue in the same place for the same food every single day, looking at the same people, in the same seats?

I absolutely realise and accept that A.I has its place and the argument will never be closed but this is Lanzarote for The Lords sake, not some remote island away from life as we know it.

Fact – the local food and restaurants across the whole of Lanzarote is amazing, the people are great, friendly, welcoming and do anything to help. The food is seriously good quality, well priced and served by people who care about you.

If you can put just a touch of effort in, you can find wonderful SC places to stay and eat out and drink out far cheaper and to a much better quality than AI and you are supporting the very people who made the environment for the AI firms to say ‘ we should exploit this’.

Jeremy, i am sure you will have an amazing time but i know you can find everything you are looking for much cheaper and have much better memories.

So theres the blue touch paper lit – i am retiring now to a safe distance!!!!

    Let the fireworks commence.

Thanks for that HRH you will have me blushing, but really its just common sense to watch the pennies the more you save the more holidays we can have

  13. H R H on Oct 25, 2012

O K Mr Clever youve stirred it up now with your yes/ no answer and question reply. I think the blue touch paper is on a rocket and maybe a lot of people can imagine where this rocket is pointing

  14. H R H on Oct 25, 2012

Well done David Myers for standing up to this everlasting debate as to AI or SC . I now say let people decide themselves and the ones who choose SC will learn by their mistakes and the ones who choose A I will be laughing all the way to the bank

Just checked flights only from Manchester to Lanzarote return 2 people first price £737 second price £1053 plus the usual extras (this is early Nov.)
You then need to find a place to stay + this cost
Then theres the cost of food for 1 week + this cost
If you like a drink + this cost
If you eat out thats more money + this cost
Transfer needs paying + this cost
I am staying in a superb 5 star hotel for 1 week in Nov.
With great food and drinks included for under £1000
Sorry no contest and i am a person who as done roughly 25 SC holidays in Lanzarote and loved them but the prices have gone through the roof in recent years so much so they have made me look at A.I.
Lastly the people who do stay SC may not put any money into the local bars and restaurants if they live out of the super markets due to the cost

  16. Kitty on Oct 25, 2012

I am going early November from Manchester and the flight was £180 return 🙂

  17. David myers on Oct 26, 2012

Thats a good price Kitty i only checked the price yesterday as a comparison and thats what came up, at the moment i am looking at flights for March next year in school hols and there working out around £280, i think the best deals are when booked well in advance
Flight cost can kill the holiday when SC

We have just got back from a week at Lanzorote Gardens and had a great time. In the party there were 3 adults, 5 year old,7 year old and an under two. We took 300 euros with us, and took out another 100 on the last day. We got out and about and I have to say the resort is really nice, with some great places to go. In the main square (markets sat and wed) we paid around 10 euros for a round of drinks (big beer, small beer, wine and a coke for the kids to share). Here are some pointers as to what we spent our money on.

Safe Hire 14 euros for the week.

Sun Loungers at hotel 1 euro per day.

Beach Towel Hire – deposit + 1 euro a day (though we only spent about 6 euros as kids weren’t bothered about fresh towels and ran back to room with them shivering from seriously cold pool!!!)

Car Hire – 50 euros for the day (nice, 7 seater VW Caddy)

Entrance to National Park to see Volcanos 24 Euros.

Lunch out one day (tapas for 3 plus pizza and 3 large beers) 60 Euros.

Trampolines – yes really!!! There are some of those bungey trampolines in the shopping centre opposite the hotel. 10 minutes = 5 euros, much cheaper than at home, good view and you can sit and enjoy a quiet drink – priceless!!!

    Hope this helps.

David Myers – Lanzarote expert, i too checked flights this morning and the most expensive flight i could find for the month of November was 175.00 return – per person.Just where did you find your flight that was so much money?
    Try this:
Cheapest in November 226.00 plus extras
    Hotel 150.00 – total
Transfers – last minute 10.00 for up to 4 people
Leaving approx 600.00 pounds to spend between two people for the week. This means the drinks you like and the food you actually want to eat not just what is being put in front of you!

Where the idea comes from that Lanzarote is very expensive is beyond me.The exchange rate is the best it has been in over 3 years and the prices in the shops and bars are very low. With regard to SC staying in at least they will be putting money into the local economy by using the supermarket.

I see elderly people wondering around with wristbands on – why have these people bought AI – they probably eat and drink small amounts everyday yet they are told it will save them money. The tour operators are misleading people for their own gain and the sooner people realise this the better.

There are many “experts” on here but a few,if any actually live here!

  20. David myers on Oct 26, 2012

Monarch came up with the daft price and the other was thomson
Just checked again using Jet2 8th Nov for 7 nights x 2 people = £777.96 not sure how you managed such a low price
Also if you live there you wont have the problem of actually booking holidays from the UK

  21. steve on Oct 26, 2012

My prices quoted are based upon two people flying from Manchester to Lanzarote – as if i were being a holidaymaker from the UK! The other thing i did not mention is that if you take Lee Edges spend of 200.00 per week whilst away it really means that you have almost 900.00 euros to spend between two people for one week – Is AI good value when compared?

Try looking on skyscanners and you can find many cheap flights on there and some expensive ones as well!

AI is popular because it is miss sold by the travel agent to people who do not know any better or just do not know where to look. The other option of course is that some people cannot be bothered to look.

  22. David myers on Oct 26, 2012

Steve thanks for your reply but your figures dont add up £175 return =£350 + accomodation is different from your prices also i wanted to fly out 8th Nov and there the prices i found your quoting Nov and no other details such as airline and dates.
Look forward to all replies next week when i am back from a week in Lincoln fishing where i will be supporting the local economy and probably freezing cold

  23. steve on Oct 26, 2012

Try rereading my post David- that was for the most expensive flight in November at the time of looking – the cheapest was 226.00 for two people plus the extras!
The hotel website is lowcost holidays and you never initially stated a date that was required!.
Checking jet2 for your date gives me a figure of 236.00 per person – half of what you have been quoted! Go two days earlier and you can get it for 356.00 for two people plus extras.

  24. H R H on Oct 26, 2012

Whats all the bickering about over airfares and hotel costs, it is irrespective as long as you get there how much youve paid !! just remember AI is better than SC .Now lets hear no more about it

  25. larry connell on Oct 26, 2012

Flights are always based on figures from the previous year, that’s the amount of people traveling during any one week, these figures do not include school holidays, people take their children on holiday before or after school holidays not during.
The holiday companies employ people to study these figures and then set an average price, then they add what is called a landing fee, that is the price set by the airport, the price then gets adjusted by the type of flight they are offering, economy or charter.
So if you pick up a bargain on a certain week it’s because people don’t normally go away that week so the flight companies lower their prices.

HRH why did you change your user name from Johnny Robinson to the one you are currently using? If people look back through the previous comments you had made under that name people would probably understand why.

  27. steve on Oct 26, 2012

You can also add the user names of spitfire and michael watson to your collection as well !

  28. H R H on Oct 27, 2012

    Steve,your kidding me

  29. steve on Oct 27, 2012

HRH simply look at your profile and then at all your questions answered. On some of the threads there are no responses at all by HRH but there are comments by the user names i have mentioned,Now either your comments have been removed or you have changed your user names. The strange thing is all of the user names used have the same views on AI, written in similar style and also some very obscure answers.

  30. H R H on Oct 27, 2012

Steve, you must still be kidding me.
