How much money should I take to Puerto del Carmen for 1 week self catering?

Asked by: 3rd January 2012 ,

Hi, my husband and I are off to Puerto del Carmen for a week at the end of Jan and not sure how much money we’ll need (we’re aiming for as low budget as possible).  We’re staying self catering but will definitely eat and drink out a few times as well as eating and drinking at the apartment.  Any idea on food and booze prices? We’ll probably hire a car for a couple of days too to visit the volcanoes etc. Cheers!

It is cheaper to go 3* All Inclusive, than eat out and buy in. Cheap AI is approx £350 pppw. Still gives you spare cash to eat out, total holiday cost including trips, car etc is approx £1100 -£1200 which is what I would say was a tight budget, we have been 4* AI with no trips and spent less that £50 – but that is just a hotel week, not visiting anywhere else. Have a great time, Lanzarote is beautiful 🙂

Thanks guys, this is really helpful. We managed to find a pretty cheap deal on the self catering so I reckon the budget will still be less than £1000 altogether. When we go all inclusive it’s tempting to drink a little bit too much but it does make things so much easier! Cannot wait for some winter sun. Cheers!

We are off to Lanzarote on 8th Jan for one month self catering, we do this every year. Our total spend for 28days (eating out and in the apt) is usually £1000 approx, add in the apt cost and it works out at £450 per week, we don`t bother with car hire as the buses are so regular and cheap.

That sounds very reasonable. We’ve decided to see if we can do it on 300 euro (with back up cash just in case). I hope you have an excellent month away, and thanks for the advice re buses. Is it easy to find out bus times/routes etc?

We go self catering to the Canaries every year, and never deny ourselves when eating and drinking!, I usually reckon on 50 euros a day, which includes a couple of trips, we don’t bother with car hire, as plenty of buses and taxis are reasonable too.

When eating out its like anywhere else Eleanor some places charge a fair bit more for the same meal once you have had a look round and compared prices you will see the ones that suit your budget but also offer quality i have been going to Lanzarote for nearly twenty years and i love the eating out there its as good as anywhere i have been
