I asked this on TripAdvisor (thanks to “pavoreal”) and this was the response:

Although the Canary Island are part of Spain, they are not included in the European Union for duty purposes. Therefore the limit for taking tobacco from Lanzarote is:

200 cigarettes, or 100 cigarillos, or 50 cigars, or 250g of tobacco.

If travelling within the European Union the recommended limit is-
3200 cigarettes or 400 cigarillos or 200 cigars or 3 kg of smoking tobacco

From Dec 1 2008 you have been able to ‘mix and match’ products in both the alcohol and tobacco categories, provided you do not exceed your total allowance.

The 27 current EU member countries with these duty free allowance regulations are:Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus (not northern Turkish region), Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany ,Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (but excluding the Canary Islands), Sweden, United Kingdom (excluding Channel Islands).

    ENJOY!

    Hope this is helpful

To make life simple you can only bring back 200 cigarettes. Prices vary depending on brand but I shop at the Indian cig & liquor store where 200 Dunhill international were 24 euro last time I purchased. Other brands were cheaper.

Sharon, if we believe what we read then there would be no customs on duty at the airport when we return.
I would suggest that if you want 400 hundred then take 400 or 10 packets of tobacco whatever, the custom are looking for the guys who are carring a suitcase full.
Cigs are cheaper on the plane £39 for 400 if you fly with thomas crook.
In PDC tobacco is 41 euros for 10,
