Grand Teguise Playa Hotel – Food/Dining ?

Asked by: 28th February 2013 ,

Does anyone know what the selection/quality of the food served at the Grand Teguise Playa is like as we are thinking of going HB in October.  Any info regarding this hotel would be appreciated as we normally go SC.  Thanks, Nicola.

Hi Nicola, We have stayed at this hotel many times and are returning again in May so it can’t be that bad. I would say that the food is good – ok. You would have to be a really fussy eater to not find something you liked.Breakfast is good with cereals ,fruit, cheeses, cooked meats, omlettes and everything for a cooked breakfast although the sausages are like our hot dog sausages and the bacon is a bit fatty. Some mornings there has even been smoked salmon and every morning you can help yourself to cava. Fruit juice not very good. Evening meal is good. Most evenings a chef will be carving a joint of meat and there is veg and potatoes to go with this or the usual fish, chicken, lasagne, paella and salads. The only complaint I had last time was that there was no cheese selection of an evening but they did have fruit, ice cream and cakes for desert. A few days when we were there last time we went to reception and swapped our evening meal for lunch and eat out at night for a change. With this option you get the best of both worlds. Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying, it sounds great, just what we want. We have just returned from a week sc and ate out every night which was fantastic, but at the end of the day it does cost quite a bit (family of 4). I love the tip on swapping the evening meal for lunch, that would give us the option to visit the restaurants. By the way if you like Indian food, Amber 11 opposite the GT was the best meal/service we had the whole holiday. Thanks again, Nicola.

Thanks for the tip re the indian. Don’t think that was there when we were out last time. Is it upstairs above the Jumbo chinese ? There used to be an Indian there but it had closed down a long time ago. Did you eat in the big green and white restaurant near to the entrance to the square while you were in CT? if so would you recommend it?

Hi, I think the Indian had just opened and yes it is upstairs. There is a guy touting at the bottom of the stairs but don’t let him put you off (apparently his cousin is the chef!). We did’nt eat at the green/white restaurant (maybe next time!) but I can also recommend El Patio and the pizza restaurant opposite to the left. Most of our other meals were when we were out and about the Island (mainly getting lost in Arrecife!). By the way we took the bus to Arricife and went to the Gran Hotel (the high rise) where coffee & cake in the bar at the top was about 3e pp, what a fantastic view and relaxing hour!

Thanks Nicola you have been really helpful. We have always intended to go to the Hotel Gran in Arrecife for the view but have never got round to it. I think I’ll make the effort this time it sounds good.

Hi David, thanks for that. I remember Mahatmacote have had curries there a few times. Made me smile too. That’s where I thought Amber 11 must be. Will try there next time we’re in CT.

Hi David, Have just had a look at your facebook site FANTASTIC have spent the last hour re- living our hols in CT. Just missed you last year,we visited in Nov 12. I see you ate at Jumbo chinese, Do you remember Jin who used to be there? He would come around the tables doing magic tricks, very friendly lad, don’t know what happened to him. When we stayed at the Galeon we had a pool view, would definately ask for a room with the view you had if we stayed there again. Once again thank you for the photos any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
