from the 15th march, too cold ?

Asked by: 19th February 2013 ,

I thought i was booking a sunbathing holiday for middle of march… hi, myself and my partner are coming to CT for 5 nights from the 15th march.  i was under the impresison that i was booking a warm winter sun sunbathing holiday but after reading this website and looking at the webcam, i am slightly concerned that lounging by the pool/on th ebeach in my swim shorts is going to be out of the question as too cold! Someone please tell me i am wrong as we were hoping for relaxation and a tan!! i am aware it gets chilly on a night but thats no problem…trousers and long sleeves are fine 🙂

I have went in march for the last 4 years and it was always warm maybe 26 or 27 degrees.
the nights can be cool but not always.

We are flying out on the 10th March for our 14th holiday 10 of these in Costa Teguise in March we have always found the weather good, the pools unless heated can be cold but it is warm enough to sunbath at the beach or at the side of the pool, also the sea is not to bad at this time. We always come back with a tan. I agree with Patrick it can be cool at night.
I am sure you will enjoy your holiday if you are self catering there are plenty of good eating places form breakfast to dinner.

    Hi Lee.
I dont think you will have any issues at all with temperatures of 25- 27 degrees , but if i read your question correctly, , You do have concerns about the chances of it being overcast etc . .
Nobody seems to have given you an answer on that aspect…
I think its fair to say that you could experience some scattered cloud at some point, however it should not be anything that ruins your holiday. . I have been coming to the island for years like many of the members on this site and i have had great weather 90% of the time whilst there, but there is always a minimal risk of cloudy skys now and then. . In all my visits since 1983 ive only ever had one overcast week and it was a December holiday and ive experienced a calima in June once ,,,.. The odds are in your favour so relax….
Just enjoy the wonderful island for what it is ,,…If the sun dont get you , the charisma of the place will !

Have to agree with Kelly. Just returned yesterday from a week in CT and the weather was great. Some cloudy days but still quite warm and very little wind which makes a change. I even went in the sea once. Mind you, have had to change my name to Thomasina as a result.

thanks for all your answers. so its too cold to go in the pool and the sea?! what kind of sunbathing holiday is this?! so do i need to pack sun tan lotion? and not a lot more than my swimshorts in my suitcase? thanks!

Lee. Don’t panic. You certainly need to pack sun tan lotion as I didn’t protect my head and started to peel quite early on. I would think there is no problem swimming in a pool and there were plenty of people in the sea.

    Hi Lee…
just a quick reply . . .No matter if it seems a little cool when your there despite the sun being out .. ( Theres quite often a breeze that can be deceptive . ). . The one thing i would suggest you take 100% is sun lotion / cream… The consequences of not putting sun lotion / cream on in Lanzarote will be catostrophic ! . . . Dont for a minute think that you can not get burnt . . You will !
It is true that the sea can be a little chilly this time of year but it is still quite swim-able !… A heated swimming pool is the best option though….. Your worrying far too much ,,The weather will be warm…
There are other postings on this site about sun factor creams etc ,,, Worth a read..

Honestly Lee don’t worry I’ve just come back with a fab tan :0) the water is always cool in lanzarote … I paid more and packed loads didn’t need it never do .. It’ll be gorgeous …

The pools are always cold. No point being wussy………..just jump in and it will feel fine in a minute or so. Thats what I always do. Have a great time. 🙂

My brother just returned – arrived in CT 28th Feb.for 7 days – really cold, blowing a gale, cloudy and wet (did have one nice day midweek and the day he was flying back to the UK) .
I have spent years trying to persuade him to go and this is what he got, so not impressed with me or Lanzarote ! I have been numerous times between October and April and never experienced weather as bad as he had..

    Hi Shirley.
Sounds like your brother has just caught for that odd week when the cloud comes in with the resulting temperature drop !

It seems that his holiday was tainted with some bad luck in respect of the weather. The other thing of course is when your there for just a week and the weathers not brill,.. you only have a small number of days to see if it improves before you go home..

Lanzarote still has a low annual rainfall of 125 – 150 mm per year, with the winter months of November through to March being the wettest. Typically the rain will fall suddenly and then the sun will come out after, its still warm enough to enjoy the beaches and swimming pools all year round.

    Hi Paul
He was just so unlucky as he also developed a bad attack of bronchitis the day after he arrived and, in spite of antibiotics, didn’t pick up till the day before he was due to come home. Just one holiday he wants to forget 🙁
