John, hi done the trip in August and NO you do not need a passport at all, we booked at the quayside in the kiosk at Playa Blanca and no passport was asked for nor when we boarded the boat

If I were you, I would definately take your passport. We were asked to show them last year. I don’t know if we would not have been allowed to get on the ferry without them, but better safe than sorry!

John. hi again as this question and the answers you are getting is making me think twice if you need a passport or not. i have contacted the Lanzarote Government Tourism Dept, and they have given me the following quotation for everybody that holidays in Spain and there Islands as follows:-

    ” Hi Dave

Yes you do, so take them with you. In fact under Spanish law you should carry photo ID at all times, although most tourists don’t!

    Kind Regards

    Miguel ”

that is news to me, when i arrive in Lanzarote our passports are placed in the safe untill the day we leave. hope this helps everybody

you should also carry them with you when you are driving too, tho some of the police will accept a photocopy, and you always need to carry your driving licence too.
