Debit Card Exchange Rate ?

Asked by: 23rd July 2011

Just wondering what exchange rate holiday makers are getting by using their debit cards to withdraw cash from ATM’s.

today the rate you should get by using your debit card is 1.13 to the pound, then adding the charges made by your bank. My bank charges 2% plus a pound. So it works out very similar to the money I could get if i went to the highstreet and bought euro’s from there. My mum and I were talking about it earlier as she wasn’t sure what she was going to do when we go Lanzarote…but we said if you buy euro’s in the UK you get it at a reasonable rate…if you take it out when in Lanzarote you take the risk that the Euro rate may improve or it may decline also. Although on the normal holiday spend the difference isn’t going to be a lot if you worked it out.

    hope this helps

I have found its usually best to change english out in Lanzarote as its a better exchange rate, but this year i used a Halifax credit card and got really good rates and no charges so i may do this in the future, i dont like the idea of being charged to us a debit card,
