Be careful about the safes you lock your valuables in ?

Asked by: 26th June 2012

I think people should check out “you tube” if you get one of these digital safes in your room or apartment, this is a real eye opener.

Hi Mike, just bringing to peoples attention how easy it is to open these things.
check you tube, under the title of safes.
“How to open a safe with a potato” it is a real eye opener.

Hi Mike, never had a problem and I don’t have one of these digital things, mine has just a key but my concern is, if someone has access to your apartment or room who is to say that they can’t just have a little dip and you would be none the wiser if you where missing ten or twenty quid.
You Tube should not show video’s like that because if it gets into the wrong hands you just never know.
A guy in PDC told me about this and i laughed too until I checked it out.

    Hi David,
Tried it on a friends safe, took 6 times but it worked using a small block of wood she used as a door wedge.
As I said before this is about awareness, it is always better to check where your money and valuables are stored before it hits the fan.

I think it was good advice regards trusting digital safes but being honest with you the only safe i have felt ok with was in an hotel which was key operated and all the safes were next to the 24 hour reception so it was hard to tamper with them unlike if its in a bedroom, if they dont manage to open it they just take it with them if your really unlucky

The problem is Larry lots of people think you wont get robbed in Lanzarote but its like every other resort you do

David, if my comments stop one person being fleeced then it is welcomed, some people seem to think that thieves go around with an eye masks and a stripped jumper with a sack on their back with the words “swag” wrote across it.
Thieves come in all guises, from bankers to cleaners and time and opportunity is not a problem for a thief these days.
If people think because they are on foreign soil they will not be targeted then they are wrong they are more likely to be a target than a local.
Ask yourself this question could you honestly say that if £20 went missing from your safe would you know about it, and if you did would you tell the hotel staff that someone stole £20 out of your safe but left the rest, the guy would call you a liar.
If someone had access to a 100 rooms and took £20 from each who would know?

We were robbed in Costa Teguise, from our so called room safe. If they hand you a Key or key is in safe door, and do not charge, or, issue an insurance certificate, PLEASE DO NOT USE THE SAFE, it will be massively UNSAFE. The Gardi are not interested, but the did get our passports back.
