Are the roads busy at the end of August, start of September ?

Asked by: 3rd August 2011

I drove in June and enjoyed it, just wondered whether there are more tourists on the road or not.  We are going 30th August and was going to get a car the 1st September.

By that time most of the tourists with kids will be back home as school starts beg of Sept – and the only time I’ve ever found it busy is in the centre of Arrecife or PDC – even at Xmas & NY its not that busy

Its not that bad, a bit like a saturday in town, busy in the mornings then eases off. Most of the heavy traffic will be going in the opposite direction anyway, you can see them coming towards you and then again in your rear view mirror as the drivers carry out their business. If you wanted to get your toe down and really go for it, then its probably best at around 4am when its really quiet, you will get a good burn out heading towards Arrecife towards the airport. There could be a few smokies about but thats the gamble. Im not sure what car you will be driving but its nice to sample the cool air with the windows open as you drive. I did it last year and it was lovely.

The only time you stop in traffic is when a driver in front decides to have a chat to someone he knows it cant get any easier no matter what time of the year you are there, i have never seen it like a saturday in town, the best place to drive by far

1st time I drove was nervous – but only because they drive on the opposite side to us here in UK – and keep forgetting gear lever is on the ‘wrong’ side !!! – come to think of it the only other bit of road that can get busy is what is known as ‘mad roundabout’ by Ropers opposite the Deiland – but even thats manageable !!!!

In town the disco brings in the traffic. Unlike some towns in the UK the infrastructure is very simple with the road network. As Karen said the ropers roundabout can get a bit manic for a few minutes, but keep your wits about you and go for it. A typical saturday in most towns in the UK, but with the exception of the trams that they are putting in place, which should be operating with the next 36 months, its the best option….
